putting moldings back on after paint

Getting my 69 convertible back from the painter today, and will start putting the car back together- I'm not sure the best way to put the peak moldings on withpout scratching the new paint- there are three kinds of molding clips - one for the fender- round holes ( thinking line up all the clips in the molding then place the entire piece in and start getting the nuts on - door has the studs with clips- should I be sliding the tim along the clips- seems scarry, and the quarter panel has white clips that fitr into a slot- again - not sure if i just slide the molding along the clips or snap it over them..

No sliding....they get "snapped" on to the white clips.
