Electric Fan

I am wanting to go with an Electric fan for my 68, the motor will be a mild 350/Auto *400 most likely* and 2.73 *IRC* gears in the rear end. The car will have A/C as well.

The radiator will be a nice 3 row replacement for the stock one which will be put up. I will be running the tranny fluid through it's own cooler.

I live in Oklahoma and will be driving a lot, our temps vary 20F to 110F during the year.

Sorry so jumbled on my post, long day and tired

Sounds like a plan.

OK. Is there a question in there?

Personally, why do you think you need an electric fan? A factory style thermal clutch fan will move more air and be more reliable in my experience.

The question is what style and what sensors needed?

As for why I like the clean look of pulleys and belts and free up a couple extra HP. Mainly I like the look of no fan

There's a few threads with some good info in this. You might do a search.
There is debate about whether or not you are freeing up hp. While the electric fans are off there is a hp gain. While on they pull from the alternator.
I used a dual fan set up off a salvage yard dodge stratus. Fits good. As far as cooling, I have the engine out getting rebuilt now. I got an adjustable thermostat relay from autozone or oreillys for like $18. One of those cheap parts places.

What year Stratus? I think that would be nice, single when no AC and flip the second on while using AC.

Biggest thing for me is the clean look.

** Hears the gasping of those going.. but use a thermal fan :P, I will keep all stock parts for when I am ready to convert back **

Dual Windstar on my 72 442, typically about $40 used. One fan controlled by temp, the other by temp and/or AC trinary switch. Kept things cool all through the 100+ degree days all summer.
There are pics in my build thread.
One other note, any electric thast moves a lot of air will pull a lot of current. Make sure your alternator is up to supplying all the electronics in the car, ie. fans, electric windos, stereo, etc.

I have two electric fans right now, both sitting in my garage

I want to upgrade to the 140 amp alternator before I install them. There is a write up on the internet on using a 3 wire Ford Tarsus fan, but it draws 70-80 amps (88-95 with the 3.8 engine, junkyard, $15)

Taurus fan, BMW sensor and wires, Volvo relay

70olds455's write up on the dual Windstar fan is a good one too

The '89 Pontiac Safari uses a 105 amp alternator that will bolt right up to a 72 Cutlass and has the V belt pulley. Some simple rewiring is required though.

I am going to go this route and get the bigger alternator and put on the serpentine belt pulleys!

Thank you for the information.

Garys68 I will check your thread for the "directions" as I like pictures and explanations.
