Oldsmobile Android App

Hi all,

Most of you know I designed and run my own little Oldsmobile site, oldsmobilecentral.com. Its dedicated to let people freely post any Oldsmobile cars they have for free. Ads expire, but the content stays to let people see what condition cars went for what values.

Anyway, for my "real" job, I work in the telecom industry. With this background, I decided to go ahead and teach myself how to make Android apps. With there being next to nothing Oldsmobile related on the Android Market place, I went to work.

I just published the Oldsmobilecentral.com Android APK. If you have an Android phone, you can search "oldsmobilecentral" in Google Play or download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...smobilecentral

Its free!

Features:
1) View the most recent 20 cars that have been posted
2) Contact recent sellers directly from your phone
3) Search for specific cars
4) Decode Oldsmobile VIN numbers made from 1965 - 1972.

I'd be lying if I said I was an application developer expert, so hopefully I have time to update it and fix any issues.

So if there are any Android users, test it out and let me know what you think!

Thanks

Any chance of getting on Amazon so I can put it on my Kindle Fire HD?

I submitted it to the Amazon store and I'll let you know if it gets accepted. However, since I do not have a Kindle Fire HD, I don't know how it will actually look on the device. If it gets published, you'll have to let me know :-)

heh
Put 442 in quotes

"442"

then send a printed page with exactly that on it. Or, e-mail it in pdf format!

There, it's "a '442' "

That is WAY cool ! Now I just need to upload some pix of my '68 442 so that it will show up as one of the "other 1968 442 that have been posted."

Thanks for your time spent putting this together - this is really cool!

I have a question. when I go to the google play store to download, the app asks for permission to access info on my phone like my phone number and the serial number. why does it require that allowances?

There are three permissions that the app currently needs access too and I'd be happy to explain why.
1) Network State - If you are currently not connected to a data network, the app will show a little notification saying it wont work. If I didn't put this code and you tried to run the app, it would load pages with errors all over them and look horrible

2) Internet access - The app connects to my sites databases so it needs to be able to have internet access

3) Phone state - This was actually left over code from a feature I was testing for a completely different app I was working on. I don't think I use this permission and I know I'm not calling any personal information. Just to double check, I've removed that request and I'm uploading a new version of the APK to the Play store now.

Phone state permission has been removed and implemented in the updated APK on the market. Thanks for bring that to my attention! I'll try to support any other issues or concerns as quickly as possible.

Looks like it just got approved on the
Amazon store Amazon store
. But just a note, I have no idea how well it really runs or looks since I don't have one to test. Its a pretty basic app so I'm not thinking there will be many problems except for lots of empty space on the bigger screen.
