Is it worth going after?
Is it worth going after?
Hello all CO Members,
I got a question for you all. I posted my major rehab of my 72 Cutlass convertible(Cloned by PO) under major builds. The PO owner said he pulled the original engine because it "blew up". He replaced it with a period correct 350 from another 72 cutlass with 40k on it. During rehab I painted the motor and did all the gasket, ect.. Engine runs mint. See before/afterpics.
Well, I got the email of the kid he said he sold the bad motor to. I touched base with him and he still has the engine. PO said he sold it to him for $100.
Would you try and get the original motor regardless of condition? Keep in mind I replaced the frame with a 72 buick frame so originality is out the window.
What would it be worth it to you or add any value?
Thanks for any input.

For $100 if it's not too far away, and you have the space to store it, I would.
The spare parts alone would be good to have, in case something fails. But a 72, low comp motor isn't worth a whole lot, especially blown, so I wouldn't shell out a lot for it.

I see at least $100.00 in parts. I guess you need to find out what "blew".
Fan, pulleys, alternator, intake, carb., etc. Good stuff if you need those parts and many of '72 guys like spares. I'd say, if it close, get it. $100 doesn't buy you much any more.

As I read the post the pretty engine pics are of the replacement engine.

Thanks Guys...
Yes, he is close and my thinking was no more than $100.00 too.
I kept all the original suspension parts and rear end when I did the frame swap. The replacement chassis I got was a complete roller, so I got room to store it.
Thanks for all the feedback. You guys are great!
Yes Henry. The pics are the before and after of the replacement engine i did up.
