Windshield

Just purchased a new windshield for my 65 Cutlass. The thickness is not as the original. Are all windshields made today much thinner?

I can answer this for you. Yes most windshields usually will be the same thickness whether it fits an Avalanche, Topaz or 65 cutlass. They are designed to meet ANSI safety regulations and have to be cost effective. Your aftermarket is probably 3/16 of an inch thick as opposed to your original was a true 1/4 inch. Every now and then depending from where the glass came from you may accidently receive a true 1/4 inch glass either USA stamp or Mexico from an old calibration cutting equipment, like an NOS part. But those are dissolving as well. All Korean, China, Indonesia glass has been redesigned to fit much closer to the original without to many blemishes...Hope this helps. I was a glass man for many many years during my previous occupation.

It looks like mine is 3/16, I guess it's like everything else nothing is made like the original.
