Wheel clearance

Hello

Just needing some expert advice. I am wanting to put new wheels on my 72 cutlass supreme. The wheels are 14x7 SS11 rally wheels. The back spacing is 4 1/4 inches. Wanting to make sure these would work before I purchase them.

Would appreciate any advice I can get!!

Thanks

Why wouldn't they work? Should have no problems, however I should mention there is not much selection for the 14" tire size anymore. I'd consider going to 15's.

Were the SS11 rally wheels the period correct wheels for the 72 olds?
thanks

"Rally" wheels are "period correct" for a Chevy. Super Stock wheels were factory optional on a 1972 Cutlass. Stock backspacing for a 14X7 SSII wheel would be about 3.75".

In any case, until you put tires on them, they will fit fine. Whether or not the tires rub depends on the tire size.

What size tire would you suggest that would not rub? Not looking for something big. Just something that would look good.

Thanks for your help!

If staying with 14" rims, then 225/70, or 235/70 if you can find them.

235/70/14 does not exist. 225/70/14 is the correct size to replace the bias ply tires that came on the car.

Agree. while 235/70-14 would fill the wheelwells better, you can't get them anymore. Unless you get expensive bias ply repros, the 225/70-14s are your best choice. You can get 235/60-14s and 245/60-14s, but those are MUCH smaller in diameter and leave too much daylight in the wheel wells in my opinion.
