What's this?

OK, I'm still new to Oldsmobile and have a lot to learn but I have never seen an aircleaner quite like the one I found on ebay. It is on a 67 400 442 motor for sale. Is this for California cars only or just one somebody added along the way? Or is it for the W-30 only? The Item # is 150336963070 in case the link doesn't work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/64-65...Q5fAccessories

I believe that is a "Climactic Combustion Control" (CCC) air cleaner, although I don't know what that means. Some kind of early smog control, I think. I'm sure others one here know more than this about me. Maybe Joe P. will weigh in.

Hey, I'm on a diet...

Seriously, the CCC system in 1967 (not to be confused with the Computer Command Control Q-jet used on the 1980s 307s) was an attempt to improve gas mileage. It used heated inlet air in an attempt to improve atomization of the fuel. One year only parts, but pretty much diametrically opposed to conventional wisdom as far as making power.

I just hate it when they put those valve covers on the wrong sides!
That is a GOOD price. The parts are worth more.

All turnpike cruisers in 67 came with a 2bbl carb and CCC however the CCC was available on any 67 V8 car as a separate option 2 or 4bbl.

I've got a 4 bbl setup from a 1967 Toronado. Mine has different printing on the pie plate, but other than that what do you see to identify it as a 2 bbl vs. 4bbl air cleaner? Just trying to learn more about these! John

Correct. In '67 the TPC was available on only the Cutlass Supreme, and not in combination with the 442 option.

In '68, the TPC was available only as an option on the 442 model. The CCC was dropped for '68.
