Actually, those old in-store tube testers were more commonly found in drug stores than in convenience stores. That's where the one in this photo was located.
I actually cropped down a photo to show just the tube tester. Here's the entire photo. The tester is at the lower left.

As much tube equipment as I have, I'd like to have me one. At least one of the plant instrument techs is into tube and has one, and will test my toobs.
I kinda miss drugstores like that. I grow weary of corporate conformity.
Which incidentally is probably why I cannot stand anything GM builds now. Just last night watched a young family pile into their new Escalade after eating at Chick-Fil-A, and I thought, why the hell should anyone fork over Cadillac money for what is essentially a Chevrolet truck?
I guess the same thing happened to the Cutlass. Even in its last iteration, it wasn't a terribly bad car, just generic and bland. Maybe GM should now stand for "Generic Motors"? since everything they make is essentially identical in each carline?

Get an Eico tube tester. I've got a 666 that I got essentially unused from an educational program that had "moved on" to modern circuitry, and I've passed up a few more at flea markets over the years. You can find them on eBay as well, though not as cheaply.
I believe that the 666 and 667 are the best, but the 667 has a few fewer sockets than the 666.

Larry asked me the other night if I want one of those Kindles or electronic book things - whatever they're called - and I told him NO! I love to read, but I also love to HOLD a book while doing it, lol!!! Pretty soon kids won't even know what a book is! It's all gonna be electronic.
