what is this?

When I bought my cutlass 3 years ago my mother gave me one of these as sort of a good luck charm. There are actually about a dozen of them up in her garage, along with most of my Father's car related stuff.

What is it?

The chrome backing that also goes around the emblem is actually chrome (not plastic). It seems almost like a wheel hub, but I'm not sure.

Center cap for the wire wheels, circa 1981 and before. I've got one from my Dad's 81 Cutlass Supreme. Kept it as a memento after the car went back to the leasing company.

Later years had a full cover over the lock and just the little square popped on. This one must be for a Ninety Eight.
