I just changed the one out on my '69. I just popped it out using gentle pressure under the mirror with a screwdriver at the two points where the back snaps into the receptacles in the visor. It came out intact and I was even able to use the old receptacles for my new mirror.

Depends upon if it's a factory mirror with the metal backing plate and two mounting posts or if it's an add-on that is a piece of glass glued to the visor. I don't see an Olds emblem on it like the factory one if my 70 Supreme but I don't know if all years had that or not.

I know the '68 and '69 originals did not have the Olds rocket on them. I was lucky to find a NOS mirror to replace the old one on my '68 but had to go with a Fusick replacement (which had the Olds rocket on it) for the '69. Although I'm an "original" sort, I do like the rocket emblem on the mirror for the '69!

And yes, both originals from my '68 and '69 had metal backing plates, as does the NOS mirror that went on the '68. The Fusick mirror for the '69 appears to have a plastic backing plate.

So I guess the OP needs to say what year visors he is working on.

Working on a 72 cutlass ,both the mirrors I believe to be original with no logo on either. I have tried to pry up gently, but with no luck . Thanks for the info.

The factory mirror should have a metal backing plate, the same size as the mirror, with two posts that insert into receptacles in the visor. You would need to pry between the plate and the visor, very close to the posts, using the lip of the receptacle as a pry point.

If the mirror is glued directly to the visor, then I have no idea how to remove it.

I have a number of mirrors, frames, and the posts, but I don't think I have a backing plate. Are those available from Fusicks?

The repro mirror I got from Fusick (came with the Olds rocket symbol on it) has a plastic-looking back plate on it. I don't think you will find the metal backed mirrors anymore unless you can get one NOS. And I don't believe you can purchase just the backing plate - it comes with the mirror.

I have my old original mirror from my '69 and have been wondering if it can be re-silvered.
