trying to identify application for this in-dash clock...

the information i have:

fully functional and accurate in-dash wind-up clock.
the front measures 4 3/16" edge to edge.
hole for push-in light in back.
manufactured by westclox.
faded date stamp on the back is jan 1955 .
not for a frod, according to a frod guy.

any ideas?

tia,
bill

You're welcome!

Doesn't the whole design just scream FORD! though?

I agree '55 Ford passenger car.
wind-up for the cheaper models & electric for the up-scale ones.

well, being a tiny bit younger than maybe you are(MD), all it screams is 50's to me. i've only owned 1 frod in my life, a '79 fiesta.

Ha ha! All a '79 Fiesta screams is HELP! when you step on the gas pedal.

There are design cues that run from the mid-50s through the '60s in their controls that are surprisingly consistent.
It' hard to describe, but if you keep it in mind whenever you see that company's interior parts, you'll see what I mean.

Good luck with the sale!

did you ever own a fiesta?
mine won many a stoplight race(weight to hp ratio). and when i wasn't lead-footing it, i got 30 mpg.

I will admit I did not.

Pintos, Mavericks, and '80s Mustang / Capris, and saw plenty of Escorts dead on the road, but no Fiestas.

I had no idea.

If it is a Ford clock, I am surprise that it does not have a "Ford" stamp on it.
I use to work for Ford and they most always put there logo on everything.

1540 lb car, 98.5 cu. in. motor making 65 horespower, manual transaxle(a/t wasn't an option). so simple a monkey could fix it. a 12-hour overnight rebuild(preventative) and i drove it 78,000 miles before the clipped front end rotted off. i paid $485 for it, the rebuild parts were $105(rings, rod bearings, valve seals, gaskets, etc.). i won't say how we honed the cylinders(clever). we didn't measure anything, either. my buddy and i each rebuilt our motors(simultaneously) starting at 7 pm on a sat. night and finished at 7 am the next morning. i did have to replace the transaxle once, i was a little hard on the "clockworks". fortunately, i had a spare from my first one, that i blew the motor out of. that was where i learned where the weak part was, rod bearings.

couldn't beat that car for the money, and i couldn't kill it either.

yes, they were, they were the cop cars of choice in england too, for quite a while.
if they'd bring the diesel-equipped new ones here, i'd go check it out. 65 to 80 mpg with performance and noise level comparable to a gas motor. the diesel cruze might force ford's hand on importing the diesel fiesta. i'd wait a couple of years and get a used one.

50 mpg, quiet and comfortable, and peppy, too, and you can get 'em used.

The car I learnd to drive was a ford fiesta. Put a 8-track player in it too. Not cool for a sixteen year old but thinking back 65 hp probably kept me from killing myself. I see one locally still driving.
