Toronado oil pan question

Just thinking, probably a dumb question but…how did mechanics get that trapped quart of oil out of the pan when changing oil? Or did the they just leave one dirty quart to mix in with the fresh?

This is a case of "don't ask the question you don't want to know the answer to.. "

I wonder if a second drain plug would have been possible?

Just a poor design between the Toro suspension and interference to the oil pan. There is not really a full quart left but enough to contaminate the new oil.

Can't be much worse than the old oil (and filtered trash) trapped in the old filter if it wasn't changed on a given oil change cycle (filter changes were recommended every-other oil change back in the day).

A second drain plug would have been a good idea, but the bean counters probably would have thrown a fit over the added dime it would have cost.

I wonder how much oil the front sump actually holds with the car at normal ride height? If the car was on a typical 4 post hoist, it’s going to sit pretty much level The guy at home in his garage with a floor jack will obviously raise the front of the car, allowing just a little more oil to natural drain.

There was a service bulletin to raise the back end of the Toronado 45 degrees during oil changes to purge oil pan... just kidding.

They sure did, changed quite a few of them when I apprenticed at the Ford dealer. See Ford had some good ideas😁.
