Stupid question of the day

I know 68 and 69 Cutlass shared the same fenders, are the doors identical as well?

The hardtops are different, as 68 has a side vent window. I think the 2 door post cars use the same door.

Also the fenders are different, the hood spring brackets are different so the fenders is a little different.

The fenders are different but interchangeable so long as you either swap the hinges or redrill the holes. The 68 hood hinges use three bolts, the 69s use two (in different locations). There is actually a third design as well. The factory service fenders actually had both sets of holes drilled and nuts spotwelded in place. These fenders will fit either a 68 or a 69.

Also note that the chrome spear on the top of the fender, just below the peak, is also different between 68 and 69. The 68s used a two-part spear with the front portion a die-cast pot metal part and the rest stainless. The 69s used a one-piece spear that was all stainless.

From experience, I can tell you you really don't want '68 hood hinges unless you enjoy hitting your head. I always feel like the hood is closing in on me when I'm under it.

Joe,
The 68 uses 2 bolts and the 69 3.

If you redrill the fender and use the '69 hinge, will it mount to the '68 hood and open higher?

OK, to continue with the stupid question of the day...since 68 and 69 fenders are interchangeable with minor differences, what about 4 door fenders? Are they the same as the two door fenders? In other words, can I buy fenders from a four door and put them on my two door model?
