Scam?????

I put a post in the parts wanted section for a 69 F85 nos trunk emblem.I got a responce from a guy that said he had one and would take a Moneygram as payment, this pesponce came to my Email address.I replied saying that I would be willing to pay with Paypal or Postal Money order. Havent gotten a responce back. He did give me a name and address in Kansas City Kansas. Just seemed a little strange with the Moneygram thing.Anybody else have this happen here? What do you think?

Scam.

Tell him you'll buy it if he takes a picture of him holding it in front of the address you'll be mailing the money to.

I did ask him to take a pic of the emblem & box. The strange thing is it realy isnt enough money he wants for it to be a scam.

Is anyone familiar with Adams Barkley? I also put an ad in the want ad section. He says he has it, but hes in the UK and for what ever reason cannot post a pic. His price is higher than I want to pay. Then plus shipping from UK, its a small very light weight part but im a little unsure about the deal. If anyone here knows of him and can verify him then I would feel better. It is a hard to find part.

You guys do understand that this site, and all other web forums, is open to the public to view, and it is very easy for those with devious minds to scan thousands of sites a day and respond to Parts Wanted posts that they have rare parts, of which they cannot post pictures, and just collect money all day, right?

I understand that completely, that's why I am very hesitant especially with him in the UK. And him not being able to send a pic. He says hes having "technical difficulty"
I just asked him how can I pay him, with paypal or what with him being in the UK. I just want to see now what he says.

I had someone from the UK reply to another of my wanted ads on another site.I just ignored it. I know that everyone in the world can see whats on this and other sites. Just wondered what other people thought of what happened.

Greg,
Ask him if you can have a member of the Olds forum pick it up. If it is a hard part to get and you really want it I'll go pick it up and mail it to you. I can get to any location in KC/KS in around twenty minutes. - Steven

Depending on how your contact info is set up, people can send an email directly to you through the site also.

Steve, what part is it that you are looking for?
Maybe someone here can help find it.

I've made a few transatlantic deals, both buying and selling, a couple via this forum.
It is unlikely that your hard to find Oldsmobile part is only available from outside North America (but not impossible), such replies should be treated with suspicion but not necessarily dismissed out of hand.
Dealing outside your country is naturally not as straightforward as dealing within your own country, but with due care it works.

Still havent heard back from him since I wanted to pay in a more secure way.I was suspicious from the begining,It just didnt feal right.Besides before I would send any money I want to speak on the phone with the person. If its a scam they sure as hell dont want to talk with you. It amazes me how much business is done thru pms and email.Personaly I would rather speak with the person even when Im selling something. I guess Im just old fashion. Or maybe just OLD. lol

The moneygram payment is a scam. Totally untraceable as it is picked up at a location usually a small store the subscribes to the service and you have no way to recover your money from the service. Look it up. I was burnt once myself. Like said above free money to the scammer

There is just about zero chance that your parts are in the UK, yet that is where all the Nigerians seem to end up, plying their trade over the interwebs.

By asking to pay with a secure method, you became more trouble than it's worth. They want gullible people to pay via irreversible methods that are painful to recover from as the scamee. One good way to spot them is to ask for the oversize left hand Frammis valve for your 443 model. The scammers "have that, for sure, in great condition"... every time.

Post a PN here and maybe a real person can really help. Try Ron Memmer, the NOS parts storehouse?

Moneygram= moneyscam. Be wary of Western Union
as well. Unless it's for the kids or your granny or...

I have also asked if they have an nos kenuter valve.
Or even a good used one. I will undoutly, get at least
a "let me check, I think I have one." at the very least.
