replacement speaker

Has anyone purchased a factory style replacement speaker from a company called turnswitch? Any comments on quality or fit? I need a front speaker for a 70 Cutlass.

"turnswitch" seems to be the place, but you'll be paying. Lots of guys on the Corvette Forum, use these. Keep in mind, most older factory speakers are 10 ohm impeadence, with most off the shelf car speakers now being 4 ohm. These will overload the radio's amp when cranked up.

Like he said, modern radio's are 4 ohm loads......

I'd look into modding our front speaker assembly to put 2 small speakers side by side.
Alot of people have done this with the 70's F-body's.

It's 10 ohms and fits like an original piece, including the little wood block painted to look like the magnet. In my opinion though, the sound quality leaves something to be desired. (they use a new style smaller magnet) My radio is an original am/fm factory mono unit that's had the capacitors replaced. I have an aftermarket speaker with a larger magnet that needs re-coned, so I may try that eventually.

Thanks for the replies. At present I have the original speaker installed [that I had re-coned] and the sound is rather poor. The weird thing is, I had the rear re-coned by the same guy, and it sounds ok. I know my memory is slipping, but I thought someone on here had used one of their speakers and was happy with it.

I put one of their front speakers in my 71 and am pleased with it. Having said that, I'm not looking for a high end system or sound. I am just happy that it looks and fits like the original. In conjunction with the rear speaker it plays my am-fm radio and 8 track unit just fine. If I want a higher end sound I drive my newer vehicles. It's a 10ohm unit which is important for the old radios. Everybody has a different idea on what a good sound is or what they expect. So I say go for it.
