Question about my trunk lid

I suspect the trunk lid on my 442 is not a '70 due to the chrome 'Oldsmobile' trim across the bottom. Can someone tell me what year/model this lid is from?
Also, can someone also post pics of a true '70 442 trunk lid inside and out so I know what to look for?

Thank you,
Matt

Oh, and before anyone says something: I know the bumper is a '72. Looking to correct that blunder from a previous owner.

It's at least a 1971 S deck lid, could not find a original brochure with a rear view of 72 S.

Trunk Lid

Don't know if this helps but attached are pictures of my '72 trunk lid.

You definitely have a '72 442 rear bumper.

Yes, it's a 1971 and 72 deck lid. It was standard on the 71 Cutlass S, but also trim with Oldsmobile lettering was standard on the 72 base Cutlass coupe (model 3287). The 72 Cutlass S only had the thin deck lid stainless reveal.

Mat, check your VIN. Was the front clip replaced. The VIN and cowl tag will verify the model year.

VIN and cowl tag confirm it was a '70
344870 VIN
34487 with ST70 on cowl tag

I suspect the car was hit in the rear at some point and replaced with '72 Cutlass S parts.
That means the 442 emblem is just glued onto the deck lid.
Crap, one more part I have to buy.

Thanks to everyone for your help.
Matt

Very likely and most probable. The back end of the 70-72 Cutlass fastbacks are all the same, so interchangeable parts for sure. If you're hunting for the right stainless reveal on the deck? Only use the trim from a 70-72 fastback. The only piece that interchanges with the 70-72 fastbacks and 70-72 Cutlass Supremes is the center stainless. The eyebrows and quarter trim are completely different in length and attachment. Also use the proper screws with plastic washers to prevent oxidation between the screw head and the stainless.

Well, at least you're buying parts for a 442.

I want to bring it back to true 442 looks and not the current cut and paste look.

Alan, once again, thank you for your help and knowledge!

I wish I was buying parts for a 442. Buying parts for my '70 F85 will have to do for now (and probably for ever). But then again, I think any Olds is better than no Olds.

'71 & '72 bumpers are the same. It's the lenses that are different.

Yup, but that's not the point. The car is a 1970 which has a different orientation and profile to the lenses.

Yes, you guys got it. I want this car to be a '70 again. I have the lenses and housings for the '70 bumper but now need an actual bumper. All in due time. I believe the back-up lenses are the same so I should be good there.

That 72 bumper looks to be in good shape might fit nicely on my own 72 Cutlass. If your selling it let me know. Cant see real good but i think its better than the one I have now.

Don't be afraid of the aftermarket bumpers. I bought a cutout bumper from Tamraz and the fitment and chrome quality is absolutely stunning! I'm sure other company's will be competitive but shop around. The cost to re-chrome an OEM bumper makes the aftermarket ones very appealing. BTW, the weight and metal thickness of the OEM and aftermarket cutout I got from Tamraz was literally the same.

I know where there is a 70 cutlass sitting just rusting to pieces. I can check and see if he will let the bumper and tail lenses go. Trunk lid is still there I have got a couple of parts from him before let me know. Most of the trim parts are gone though and no dash.

OP has lenses and tail light buckets. Maybe post a pic or two of the donor car for him?

Allan, I read on another thread about the Tamraz bumpers. I wasn't sure about the metal thickness, but you answered that as well. I have been keeping an eye on their Ebay site to see when a U.S. plated version is up for sale.
Thanks again for your help!

I have the lenses and housings, but I would like to see a pic of the bumper. I want to get a 442 trunk lid so that I don't have to drill the emblem holes.
