Pomona Swap Meet March 1

I have a business trip to SoCal that will let me attend the next Pomona swap meet. Anyone from the area planning on going?

Pomona 2004

That is so cool. Remember going to a Super Chevy event, in Pomona in 2004. Trailered out a load of parts. Super Chevy no longer exists. Fuel had just gone over $2 / gal then, out there. Seemed a big deal at the time. Long trip, 1700 miles round trip. The original concrete slabs, on 10 westbound, heading downhill into Indio had not yet been covered by asphalt, like riding a buck board with all the up and down movement. They recently finished a big widening project, for eastbound traffic, 10 is three lanes heading uphill out of coachella valley. A lot smoother, all new concrete pavement.

My in-law mentioned something about attending. If I had seen this earlier, would've sent him the link. All good!

I haven't been there for about ten years, so I'm looking forward to it. The problem will be packing any large purchases for shipment back to the east coast. First local swap meet is March 14 at Howard County, MD.

Well, Pomona is smaller than Carlisle or Hershey and only runs for Sunday morning (gates open at 5 am, and buyers wander the aisles in the dark with flashlights), but there are seven Pomona swap meets a year. This was the first time I've been able to go in over ten years (I never missed a one when I lived in SoCal). Sticker shock hit me at the gate - $21 to park and $15 admission! Carlisle has nothing on this. And while I expect the fairground price premium on food, $5.27 for a SMALL coffee!! The vendors are definitely more diverse at Pomona, from street rods and musclecars to classic trucks, hard core drag racing parts, LOTS of classic VWs, lowriders, and 80s cars on dubs. Also lots (to a fault) of "car-adjacent" vendors like custom bicycles, apparel, and car care products. Precious few of the big vendors. Virtually no Oldsmobile parts; I saw an Offy single plane intake, some aftermarket chrome valve covers, a stock air cleaner assembly (not O.A.I.), and a 215 intake. While I didn't spend a lot of time in the car corral, I did see a very nice lowered 64 Eighty Eight (probably a Jetstar 88) with a 425 and a 1969 Cutlass convertible.

Of course I managed to buy a few things, including a couple of 7" OLED headlights for my squarebody truck that actually look like normal headlights. The best price I'd seen elsewhere was $89 each at Speedway Motors, but these were $100 a pair. For that I figured it was worth the risk. The seller says he is having them made, and is also working on 5 1/4" high and low beam bulbs. If these work out, I'll be getting a bunch of those.

I see you got a shot of the drag strip grand stands. They still have the Winternationals at Pomona I assume, or whatever it's 'sponsor name' is now

I lived in Howard Co MD (Columbia) for a couple of years in-between moves from Philly to FL - I still had my '68 Charger then and periodically ran with a local Mopar club crowd up there. I was a fairly regular Carlisle Mopar show visitor during my years living up that way, haven't been there since I moved to FL and miss it.
