Paint problem

Purchased remanufactured mirror for 70 442. Body shop having trouble getting paint to stick. Tried epoxy primer(2 coats) no luck. Anyone ever had this problem any answers. Had heard something in the pot metal.

It's difficult to believe a body shop can't get the paint to adhere. I believe I would find another shop. If it's raw metal and aluminum it takes a different primer than epoxy. Dupont Variprime primer would adhere to aluminum or pot metal. If though it's been powder coated that would need to be removed. Nothing will really adhere to the polyester powder coat.

I've read of other people having the same issues with their 70 reproduction mirrors.

From: Prescott Wash.
Disassemble the mirrors soak them in a wax and grease remover wipe dry, media blast with a fine to medium crushed glass at around 90psi or as low as you can to get the old paint off and leave a nice even profile. Then washing them in a heavy solution of Dawn soap and water. Dry them thoroughly and use a direct to metal primer PPG DP50 or what ever color you need or want. Then your build up primer if you want or straight to your top coat.
