Olds SSI wheels???

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tchlink:top:en

Does anybody recognize these and know what thy come on? They are clearly stamped "833". I've seen a *lot* of SSIs over the years, but I've never seen an Olds 833 wheel. 795, 810, yes, but not 833. Said he took them off a '67 Olds, but I do not believe they are '67 SSIs. The offset looks different (like they are "deeper dished") than the Olds SSIs.

I thought all of the SSIs had trim rings until 1971? I could be way off on that, but I do know the 14x7" ones that came on my 70 do have trim rings.

Kurt,

What it does look like to me is more like a 68 Charger wheel. He's SURE he took them off a 67 Olds? Ask him what the lug pattern is. That might help. And make sure he measures it right. We know the Olds should be 5X4 3/4 inch. If it's different, it's not an Olds (or pontiac or buick) A body wheel. A Charger will be 5X114.3 (or 4.6 inches) which will miss the lugs on an Olds by a long shot.

Ok, never mind. I just re-read his ad instead of just looking at the pictures. He says they are a 4 3/4 lug pattern. So I guess this was no help to you. Sorry.

i don't know what all years had them but 67 had both with and without trim rings. i picked up a 67 442 parts car over a year ago and had SS1s without trim rings and chrome wheels.
as for the ones on e bay, i am not experienced enough for that one.

Could they be Magnum 500 wheels from the '60's or '70's? Thr center spoke chrome finish is to glossy for OEM wheels. Also note the inboard valve stem holes.

I am by no means an authority on GM wheels but are those for sure genuine GM? unistyle?

I found two references on the net that suggest that the "unistyle" lettering may mean its a Magnum 500 style rim made by MotorWheel and as used on some Mustangs:

If so, they are likely a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. I say this is another case of a seller who doesn't know what he's talking about.

Thanks Aliens. The "Magnum 500s" were definitely made for GM, Ford, and Chrysler (and AMCs as I'm now finding), and that is apparent in those links.
I presumed since he said that they came off a '67 442 that they were indeed a GM 5 x 4-3/4". But now I'm starting to think (noting that he said "a long time ago") maybe his memory is flawed and maybe those wheels are not even 4-3/4". The new owner will find out for sure!
I see that it would be best if I expand my wheel research beyond the Olds applications so I'll know what wheels like this are when they come up!

I did try to word my post carefully, realizing that Motor Wheel was also a wheel supplier to Olds (apparently even being located in Lansing). And in fact, the more I look at those wheels, I think they do look very similar to the ones on my '67 442, exception being the "shiney" centers/spokes and as you suggested, perhaps a deeper dishing.

Even if they they fit, I prefer the correct "matte" style over the "shiney" versions, even if it means you're limited to 14 inch tires. I can never understand why SOME people will fuss over silly details like date coded spark plug wires, tar top battery (or "Topper"), etc etc, yet put a set of (admittedly very nice looking, but) incorrect rims on their car.
