Is this normal ???

1970 442 with rally pack gauges. My speedometer needle is way below the zero MPH mark when at a standstill, this cant be right ???? When driving it is approx. 5 MPH too slow. If it started out at zero MPH then I think it would be much more accurate. Any ideas ??? How too fix ??? Thanks----Greg

No, it should sit on 0 when stopped.

Greg, did you just have this speedo overhauled? The mileage looks like it was. If so it should be under some form of warranty.

I'm thinking the needle just pushes on to a very thin shaft coming out of the speedo mechanism. You may be able to remove and reinstall it.

Maybe it was pegged past 120 and the needle moved on the shaft!

I have restored a bunch of these but I don't know/remember if I did this one. If so I would not have shipped it with the needle in the wrong spot. That being said, they are pretty easy to remove & reinstall. Just gently twist the round part of the needle counter clock wise & it will come off then push back onto the stem in the correct position.
