Need Advice on engine purchase

I located a 455 & Trans from a "77 Oldsmobile." I'm wondering if it's worth $350 and a four hour drive. I don't have a specific use at this time, but am considering a build for a future 442 (clone?) project. I have not yet spoken with the seller. Any advice, things to look for, or look out for?
Thanks,
Rich

If it's in the car and running with decent oil pressure it's worth the money even if it has J heads. If it's a core engine with J heads I wouldn't bother. If it's a core engine with C,E,G, or Ga's it's about the going rate. If it's got D,F or H's you should have already bought it and not told anybody.

Make sure the motor turns over if its not in a car. If it's locked up...that's not good.

And the trans is probably a long tail if it is/was in a 77 which isn't going to help you much

If it's in a 77, it won't be
original to the car.

They were last used in 76.

Thanks

Thanks all for your input; I appreciate it. I have left several messages for the seller, but he is not returning my calls. I guess he's already moved it.
