Lesson learned!

I recently picked up a set of rallies on Craigslist. The guy listed them as 14x7... So i go out and buy me some 14 inch tires not knowing that i could verify the rim size by a stamp on the inside of the wheel. Needless to say when i went to have them mounted today I found the stamp, the rims are 15x7 ! Now i have 3 hours invested in cleaning, polishing and painting my rims and $200 invested in tires. Learn from my mistakes lol. Now i have to find a set of 14x7s rallies and restore them all over again. On the bright side practice makes perfect!

Bummer.

Can you exchange the tires for 15's?

Usually the mistake is the other way around because people measure to the outside of the rims and it adds an inch?

The 15's usually go for a lot more money so you won't lose like the other way around, they should even be more valuable all cleaned up and painted like that.
Are the wheels Nordic blue by any chance?
I want to go to 15'" SS wheels but I have to wear out my 14 inch tires first to justify the expense of new tires to the boss.
And it won't do burnouts without a special act of Congress so I can't keep rotating the tires to the rear wheel to wear them all out either.

Since so much went into the wheels, i would be inclined to keep them.

Is it possible to semi-trade in the tires for some new 15s? If not too old a tire shop might work with you. Worst that could happen is if they say no...
Maybe sell those tires yourself and get some 15s?

Just some ideas....

FYI...the 15s are worth more than the 14s. When I was looking for a set of Rallys everybody had 14s but not so many folks had 15s.

I would keep or trade them

Are they bolt-on center caps or the snap-on? Either way I'd keep the rims and exchange or sell the tires

Consider yourself lucky. The 15's are much more desirable [If they're bolt on centers]

I ended up trading my 15s for a set of 14s for a clean set of 14s that were already sandblasted and polished.

I also just got an offer for $1200 for the 22 inch rims and tires currently on my 72. I like the big wheels, but have been thinking about dropping the size a little. Maybe a staggered set of 20's or I may even stay stock. What do you guys think ?

Is it stock now? (I bolted a huge set of Mickey Thompsons on my stock1988 Isuzu Trooper one time)
And what you mean by staggered 20s? 20 in the rear and 19 in the front? Or different profile 20s in the rear vs the front.

I would say go down a bit in size. The rims are sweet, just a little large (For me. Other folks may have a diff opinion) You might be able to find an online tire visualizer where you can pick the rims and see how they look on a Cutlass or you may even find a site that lets you upload a picture of your own car to do it.

yeah i've been looking at a couple different sizes using this website:

http://www.andysautosport.com/rims/oldsmobile.html

I'm afraid once i take the big wheels off ill miss them. But it will be nice to enjoy the power under the hood!
