Finally got fuel gauge to work. Was bad sending unit in fuel tank. I ordered a fuel tank sending unit from Jurrasic Classic Auto Parts out of Florida, (www.jcaparts.com). Website states it has parts for full sized Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, and Chevrolet from 1959 to 1985. No specs given for the part, and same part number for the Oldsmobile as a Buick "B" body. I sent an e-mail asking for spec, and reply was it was a closely guarded secret, but garunteed to fit. Compared to the original sending unit, pick up tube is 3/4" to short (6 1/2" original, new is 5 3/4" long, float is not able to get to bottom of tank, had to put 8 gallons of 91 octane in tank to get needle off empty and up to 1st mark above E. Appears to me that stop for float needs to be shortened on side it drops from. Looking at a Chassis Service Manual for the 1967 Buick, Buick installs from front side of tank (facing passenger compartment) unlike the Olds which installs from top of tank. The fuel gauge works now, but not sure how accurate it will be, as this is the first full (25 gallons) I've put in the car. Will keep you posted as to gauge operation. Most likely will be putting car up for the winter sometime in mid to late November, so may take awhile to bring you up to speed.

It's unfortunate that you had to be their guinea pig. They made a silly statement about secret information. All anyone needed to do to get this information was to buy one of their parts.

They should be paying the return charge; that's a cheap price for them to pay to get fitting information for an Oldsmobile.

The thought behind their way of cataloging parts is similar to that of Year None:
  • If it fits a Chevelle, it's right for your Cutlass.

I forgot to add that the lines coming from the top of sending unit are about 3/4" to short to meet up with fuel and fuel return line (factory A/C cars only have fuel return line), had to fit longer hoses to match up with lines on frame.

VC 455, sharp looking Vista Cruiser. has to be tons of fun to drive with the stick. You are right about "if it fits.....must fit....." . Have come across that on a number of vendors, regardless of what I was restoring. OPG, Year Dumb, Natural PHarts Depot, etc.
