hood problems

My hood does go down all the way, however on the driver side towards the front it sticks up. It has a small dent, but I don't think that's why. My dad said it's because the hood is warped. Here is a picture of what it looks like.

Looks like the hole for the faux louver is covered. Did you weld it in? If so, the hood may have warped in the welding process.

Eddie, the faux cover holes in the hood are still there. I don't think it has been welded over. It does look like there's a warp though.

I'd be curious to know if the hood may be too far down at the back closest to the cowl.

It's difficult to tell from the picture. It looks like a decent fit at the back of the fender, then it curves upward, like something was under the hood and it was slammed shut and bent the hood and hood frame.

Editted........you could be right. I looked again and it's low at the back of the hood. I'd need more angles of the hood to be decipher what's going on there.

That's what I was thinking too. If it was way low at the back it would likely be the 'reverse' of what so many people have trouble with fitting these hoods for flush. Since the hood is fairly long (compared to today's cars) the amount it would be out increases dramatically over distance from the hinge bolts.

The hoods with the faux louvers actually have a steel substructure. That's what you're seeing in that picture. Look close and you will see a couple of the piercings where the faux grill attaching pins go through. IMO if that hood got slammed with something wedged in between, wouldn't it have an upper kink in it too? It looks fairly smooth to me.

The holes for the faux louver is there and nothing has been welded. I removed the chrome louvers because they were broken at the buttom. The hood was like this when I bought the car. Am thinking it would be better to just buy another hood rather than trying to fix this one. I have a 72 supreme. The passenger side fit perfect. My dad said someone probably slammed the hood not knowing there was something underneath it which warped it. The hood is from a 71 or 72 cutlass s.

Portland, Or 97211.. I wonder how much it will cost to ship? I would think greyhound would be the way to go, am not sure.

shipping would probably be much more than you could buy one for locally... it is very big and heavy... shipping my core support greyhound was about $100, I would guess probably at least twice that!
I really don't want to deal with the hassle of shipping it either. I am sure someone from the Medford area has a pile of really nice ones to choose from.

Check with John McNeel (2blu442) He's closer to you - Medford OR. I'm sure he has some of these hoods available and possibly you could drive down and pick it up. (around 270 miles)

Here's John's site PM link https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...o=newpm&u=2171
