Hedman Headers

We have a acquired a set of Hedman Headers & a Magnaflow cat back system for our 72' Cutlass w/350. We got the old exhaust removed last night. Went to install the header on the left side and found the heat shield that protects the left engine mount is in the way. Is it ok to remove the shield or do we have to modify it so the header will fit properly? First time putting headers on an Oldsmobile & don't want to end up frying the engine mounts.

If you can modify the shield the better, but removing it is not an issue. Why a cat back system?
