How is the harmonic balancer making noise? That is not the usual complain on a worn out balancer. Are you sure it is the balancer or is the water pump making that noise?.... Tedd

X2. If you find you do have a problem with the balancer, it can be rebuilt.

Has the rubber failed and the outer ring making noise? Maybe hitting/rubbing something? This sounds unusual to me but again, If you need it rebuilt here is who I would send it to.

I can't tell, but it went out 25 years ago, and it sounds the same a loud clanking noise

Well weather or not if it is or is not making noise a harmonic balancer with 60+ years of age needs to be rebuilt, rubber only lasts so long..... Tedd

If the bond is lost and use is continued the remaining rubber will be eroded away resulting in a lot of looseness between the ring and the hub. This can make noise. It is negligent to continue in this fashion and may damage the steel parts to an extent that they can no longer be rebuilt.
