fuel and oil additives
fuel and oil additives
Has anyone heard of using Marine Stabil in the fuel on these older cars to stop the effects of Ethanol in the new gas? Should there be anything else added as well? I use a mixtuer of 25% of 101 LL and 75% 93 pumped gas now. Then I add regular Stabil in the fuel when storing the car for long periods of time.
Also what oil additives are you using, and where's the best place to purchase them?

Ethanol stirs heated responses in all car and marine forums. No getting around it, so I think getting rubber fuel lines and carb parts upgraded to modern materials is the best defense. Also avoid long term storage, so I guess we have to drive our Olds more.
I have been using the Lucas Ethanol treatment for over a year with great results.
My work truck has over 170k miles and had non-stop problems with hesitation. I fill up over 100 gallons a week.
This product has made a difference in performance.
It must be catching on, because the price has been going up slowly!

Yup. Been using it in a number of my old cars for many years. When mixed no more than 20-30% with pumped gas its effective. But when using it straight, anything rubber in your fuel system will fail. My friend found this out the hard way. Cost him a new fuel cap, tank lines, pick up sock in the tank, fuel pump and carb rebuild.

Sounds like a great idea.
Any noticeable performance?

Some. You dont have to set the timing back. I had a bad pinging problem with my W-30. There wasnt an octain additive that worked so I had to retard the timing. But, that made it sluggish. When I first put the 101LL in, I drove less than a mile and I felt the difference, and the pinging stopped. Been using it for 14 years in it.
