I currently have 2 -1958 Olds EightyEight - one 'Hardtop' and one Sedan - I was told the 'Hardtop' was a Super EightyEight, but not sure if that is true or not. The Hardtop holds a 455rocket attached to a powerglide trans, the sedan [which was suppose to be a donor car - but couldn't bring myself to use it for spare parts since it turned out to be in good shape] has the original 371rocket and appears To be pretty much original.

I live in Atlanta [in city] - have pictures of cars but have to figure out how to download from files to message - not computer literate, if doesn't require the use of a wrench or a hammer..... I don't know much about it. { although a few times I've wanted to use a hammer....]
-- I have been attempting to post or reply to questions, but I seem to be having a hard time getting replies to go thru - I'll figure it out soon enough I guess. Or I'll have to break down and ask the wife to show me how.

Hey another post went thru - see I told ya I figure it out { I didn't have to ask the wife show me - Thank God}
I got a friend of mine that recently pick up a 1986(?) Olds/Hurst -in nice condition, but I'll send him to this site, so some one can explain to him how to properly shift it [it has the three shift levers]. of course I think he's gotten some bad info regarding this particular Oldsmobile - someone told him one of the levers was to shift the rear differential gearing [as was explained; similar to shifting a 4x4 form 2wheel to 4.. or something like that] - anyway he needs some guidance, much like myself.....

Welcome. If you combine two 88's do you have a 176 when you're done?
2 speed differential? Then it would be a six speed, too cool.
Does the "someone" who said that drive a Mack or Peterbilt?

I found this and it explains a little, don't see a rear differential range selector.

Smile welcome

Welcome to the site. this is the right place to find answers to your olds questions , though these guys like to see pics of your cars. If you have pics stored in your computer then you can add to your response in this window. This is a new thread you started so if you click on the POST REPLY box on the bottom left a window like this will open up and you can write a message. Below this box and the icons you will see a box that says MANAGE ATTATCHMENTS , click that box and a separate window will open , click on the BROWSE for your computer and find a pic of your olds then click open. After you have done this remember to click the UPLOAD box and it will attatch to your reply box. If you have lots of pics of your Olds you can store them in a couple of places not in your computer. These sites are flickr.com and photobucket.com . After you put your pics in one of these sites you can post your own link to this site and we will be able to see the pics you choose to put there. these sites have a box where it will let you create your own link. Maybe the missus can help you out with this.

Pics - maybe soon

Hi all,
hanks for helpful advice..
attempting to download Pics Of '58 Olds EightyEight's for your viewing pleasure - However, I don't yet see the MANAGE ATTACHMENTs box. Perhaps it cause I'm still a Newbie { well, perhaps that little box way down at bottom is trying to tell me I can't make attachments just yet.....}
Maybe after a few more posts I can send them.
But enjoying pics of other's OLDS in mean time....

Hurst/ Olds

BlueVista,
Yeah - I try to explain to my friend that I really didn't think you could shift the diff gear -
- however with such a unique or rare{?} model [ 1200 ? perhaps made... is that right?] I wasn't sure if it might have come equipt with an 'Underdrive/overdrive' unit attached to Trans. which would make more sense than shifting the diff gear.
However, I don't know much about this particular model olds and haven't yet found much about the model [except maybe what it might be worth..]-- course now I'm on the right site for people who know about OLDSmobiles and probably know a lot about '86 Olds/Hurst

You are a registered user now so there should be nothing preventing you from attaching a picture as long as the file is within size limits. Good luck.

It may be that your pics are too large and therefore will not load. Or it may be that when you click on the manage attatchments , then click browse from computer you open the picture you want ( do them 1 at a time ) you are forgetting to click on the UPLOAD button underneath the browse window. If your pics are to large try putting pics into Photobucket.com or flickr.com then you can createa link to the site like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wolfman98/

I'm attempting as much as possible to keep the car as original as possible.

NO... it didn't go thru . some type failure on upload. hummmm... I'm using/sending 'JPGs' ... wait adjusted image size. let me know if pic is too small or what...

well tis OK

I use an HP photosmart essential camera which has the folders on the computer and my icons are set at medium. beyond that I don't know the specific size. I guess that's why I use flickr to store all photos of the cars progress.
