Finally shooting paint !!
Thanks very much for the compliments !! Dupont paint. base coat clear coat. Car Quest local store mixed it and hit it dead on. 3 coats of clear. The body was blocked and sanded at least 10 times b4 paint. Will block wet sand with 1500 then again with 2000. 3M 6420 compound after that.

Da' Hood
Said the heck with stencils and laid out the hood myself. Will fill in the inner section and shoot the color tonight, dry for 48 hrs, wet sand, compound and buff car and hood and reassemble. Then the final assembly begins !!
Kyle, preparation of the surface is EVERYTHING to a good paint job. The better the surface, the better the paint will lay down and the finish will be more perfect too.
Bug - looks fantastic. Hard to believe the $$ on the paint though. You have a nice layout pattern on the hood for no stencil.

Just being a smart azz on the materials cost
Try about $1100.00 so far in paint and related materials...
Thanks on the compliment. Will have pictures later today on the hood. It came out really nice !
While I have been doing a lot of the work myself on this I knew enough on the paint and body work to surround myself with good people. The man doing the prep on the body is a perfectionist, old school, guy that has done this for a living all his life. He went over and beyond on the prep work and it shows! He used two tubs of body powder finding the high and low spots in the primer and would not quit until they were all gone. Hence the 10-12 sandings before paint.
Wet sand is part of the finishing process on the paint. It removes any imperfections such as drips in the clear coat or fish eyes etc in the surface coat. Once that's done it's on to polishing and the result is like glass. It's the final stage of making a show car paint look like "show car paint".
Good bodywork guys used to spray a light mist of black paint on the primer before they block sand the car. Any low spots show up as still showing the black paint. These get a skim coat of filler and block sanded again. Then the process is repeated until no low spots show. Now a days they use a black powder that comes in a tub with a foam applicator that you dab or rub on the primer (i.e. body powder )
