Clearance Question

Howdy. After a lot of grunting and groaning I have installed a 455 and TH 400 out of a 68 Delta 88 in my 67 F85, I used a edlebrock performer intake and stock Q jet carb. With a 2 inch tall air cleaner, the hood hits the cleaner. I used small block motor mounts, there doesn't appear to be enough clearance between the oil pan and cross member to use big block mounts. Would a different oil pan enable me to use different motor mounts? All proven suggestions would be appreciated!

Did you use a drop base on air cleaner to clear hood? I just put a 455 with a performer intake and a turbo 400 in a 1967 post 442 no problems with oil pan. I did use headers of a unknown brand had to massage them. Wished i had bought new hooker headers like in my 1967 cs race car. Good luck with your build.

Performer ? Or Performer RPM ?

Edit: Derp.
Fun71 teached me that RPM is small block only. Kindly disregard. I'll crawl back to my SBO world now....

There is no dimensional difference between a SBO and a BBO below the heads except for the deck height, so changing to BBO mounts will not change the distance between the oil pan and the crossmember.

If you want an open element air cleaner that will work on your car, use this one.

I used a factory drop base and that made a big difference. Then put a K&N filter top on it and you can only do this if there is no hood insulation. That all cleared well and gave it lots of air. I had the inner fender out on the passenger side so could see the hood to air cleaner clearance well.

Once again, for the 1967 cars, there are not "big block" or "small block" motor mounts. The 67 442 used exactly the same mounts on the 400 as Cutlass cars did on the 330. The 400 and 455 are externally identical. You cannot lower the motor any further because the crank would hit the crossmember. Cleareance issues with the Performer and a regular base air cleaner in the 64-67 cars is well covered here and on other forums.
