Exclamation Chris Witt

I was working on the 442 today, and remembered that Chris Witt gave me a front Olds dealer plate about 20 years ago.

He called me to tell me that he wanted a good home for it, which it has,

RIP Chris, this site will never be the same without your vast Olds knowledge.

×2 His passing was a shocker. I first learned of Chris on the
Lisa Madsen Oldsmobile site. That was a great time to be into Oldsmobiles. Great site also. RIP, Chris.

On another note, every time I see an old thread and one of the posters has been on for years, I wonder why?
Good story about the Rocket Scientist.

Nice to hear him remembered with fondness. He helped my understand a number of things concerning Olds. We corresponded a few times through the years, but never got to meet in person.

Yes, I too experienced his generosity and was saddened by his passing.

I always enjoyed his "wit" as it was present in his postings and in person. I only met him a few times, but what a wealth of knowledge and always willing to share his expertise.

Many moons ago, I needed an A.I.R. system, stem to stern for an 84 Cutlass, and he sold me a complete setup for an extremely fair price. He included every nut, bolt, spacer, hose, clamp, pump, diverter valve, bracket, I mean EVERYTHING I needed to put it on. Plus he threw in some wads of shrink tubing, other fasteners, and stuff I had no idea what it was for. Good dealings and a nice guy as far as I was concerned. He knew a lot of crap about Oldsmobile stuff.

Ya'll in fine company too

Just a rough estimate there must be over
20000 people and their vehicles that were assisted actually more Vehicles quite a few guys got more than one vehicle
& residuals continue through
 things he has done
& was all initially inspired by a white 64 2 door Cutlass 330 four barrel Auto trans & a 4.1 posi white exterior and black interior with Gabriel hijackers and G60 for teens y'all might not believe it I just realized the irony of this myself he sent that car off to the junkyard with everything on it wow

Gabriel HiJackers and G60x14's. Man that takes me back! That's what I had on my black '68 in my signature, below. Too funny about his '64's trip to the yard - intact!

isue obviosly neither met nor knew th man. , however , strange as it may sound from me , a deviation off topic has been detected
A narrow thread connects those two brothers & doubt it entangles others at this place that constantly refuses to transfer images & that topic slightly less painfull could bring forth enlightenment & satisfaction to who struggle to get apicture to upload ona sale/wanted listing
& as a great man all known to us all , never once said " those who choose to live in the past ,are doomed to repeat it" .....or something to that affect ?¿?

Sorry, I'm not that deep. I'm just a "simple" old car guy. I was referring to another member that has passed away. I always enjoyed "88coupe" posts also. He is the "Norm" I was referring to.

That is very well said. We all know he touched a lot of people in the Olds community but seeing a number attached to it really puts it into perspective. And I can personally attest to the last part as I am still passing on information that I learned and /or archived from his posts.

Not norman eugene slep

I was also mistaken about Norm ,Norm Slep had passed previously after a battle with cancer and I was wondering how all that fit together and it did not add up
anyway ..th initial cause of it all 64 cutlass holiday 2 dr had its tired oil consmin 330 hi comp yanked out and rebuilt and when Its turned back over after putting oil pan on heard a Clank wouldn't think much of it until after we started it up and it went knock knock knock
that noise was rod bearing..off to junkyard for for $50
Which bought a rusty Mi 67 supreme & Mark Squires 67 supreme from Colorado with no rust & first muncie 4speed
This rebuilt & every other afterwards was done by completing procedured in order of necessity inspecting that procedure to be sure it was done right then marking it on the list as having been done correctly & never another clank in oil pan as a result

That high comp 3:30 with Muncie attached was placed on a running engine stand and tested & tuned before ever seeing the car. The car which got part of the script off a Bonneville which said evil placed on decklid instead of cutlass was forever refferrd to as "the evil Cutlass " and it was wicked ,had a 10 bolt 411 posi or something like that , Cragar SS rims he bought brand new bucket seats and a shifter with wrong handle on it from a 57 Chevy with a bench seat that would smack your knuckles on hittin Third
I almost failed to mention the items that livened it up , headers ,
Holley 750 double Pumper , and most of all Offenhauser 360 dual-plane Aluminum Intake
Initially it was red but Mark done a good job with flat black and rattle can as quarter panel was crumpled on the one side & flat black hides much from the eye .Car stayed in that trim for quite some time and before he sold it , he put an automatic in it and removed the Offenhauser and Holly but by that time he hadbcome back from UC Davis where he had found the red 68 w30 convertible almost disguised as any old average 442..no oai , black inner on one side & red one painted black.
Duh..wrong heads but still a 400/400& 3.42 was most respectable

memories

thought I had been quoted , your history lesson true as it may be I doubt was not made up of two different ones like mine
Found it most ironic you should mention that . I don't know if you noticed but I did and other people have since then on the way to my place on the left hand side of the road from just about every direction on the back of street signs to left , as aproached. , you see this two-letter designation referring to his assumed title and those in the know when they see that understand they're headed in the right direction as well after seeing that once they don't see it they've gone too far
was told he could not understand how somebody not old enough to go to school yet could tell you exactly how to get here from Lansing although he himself could not remember the directions even though had been going there for 9 years prior and yet still having a hard time remembering things like how to get here or what day it is...wich saved space allowin for casting and production numbers which spewed forth quite accurately as if a human computer
