how do the ***** come off the rods for the astro vent, 1970 olds no a/c

 

If you mean the chrome plastic ***** on the kick panel pull rods then you'll likely never get them off without destroying them. They are pressed onto the shaft ends BUT the shaft ends have rings or "barbs" around the end that the ***** slip over.

Use some wire cutters to crack/break them and get some repro ***** to put in their place.
