89 custom cruiser.

I have a 1989 custom cruiser full size wagon that is a daily driver. While I was getting gas another customer ask me if I would sell it. It has 70,000 original miles. No rust and a very clean interior. I just replaced radiator, water pump and heater core, springs, shocks and front brakes. The a/c compressor is locked up and it still has original exhaust. he guy seemed serious and gave me his number if I decide to sell it. I live in mid Missouri and have no idea where to start on an asking price. Can anyone give me some help. Thank you. I forgot to mention the interested buyer is definitely not looking for a derby car. He is talking about slamming it etc.

You should start a little high. Maybe something like this...

I usually start around $20,000 and go up from there. Needless to say, I'm not in any hurry to sell.

First off, Welcome to the site.

You probably already know that the B body cars aren't really a high demand item. There's a good chance that the 'interested' buyer is looking for a Demo derby car, as the big cruisers are a favorite for that.

If you have no sentimental attachment to the car? By all means sell it. Doesn't sound like it was getting a lot of use anyway; it averages out to around 3k per year of its life. The $ you've spent on it is basically required maintenance so it can't be factored into any extra coin on your end.

The NADA price guide on your car suggests a low price of 1750 and an average of 4575. With the AC not working it detracts from the sale price. It would be great to see pics of this car to show overall condition in/out, but without that available? I'd suggest somewhere around 3500-4000 cash in hand would have me signing over the title.

Bottom line is you only sell if if you think it's worth your while. These things haul a ton of stuff, but they also use a fair bit of gas, which isn't getting cheaper by the day. Anyway, those are my thoughts on it.

If you sell it, what are you going to drive then?

That's always another side to a sale. I'm sure the OP has considered that though.

Hardly a week goes by someone doesn't approach me about selling mine. I'm gonna hang onto it because 1) I like it and 2) it's handy.

Mine is a Diesel converted to gas 350 so mileage isn't its strong suit, but I had an 81 Pontiac 307/OD that would reliably deliver 24mpg as long as it got good fuel. Reformulated gas would tear it up, dropping mileage from 24 down to 16-17 range. I would think an 89 Cruiser with that drivetrain could manage at least 20.

Yeah- you need to watch out for demo-derby crowd. No point in destroying a perfectly nice wagon for yahoo entertainment. That means you should price it out of their range if you sell it.

Welcome to C/O, this is a great source for information and friendly personalities that have a strong appreciation for all years and models: Olds! I think that some pictures could help members here make a ballpark estimate on what your CC is worth if you decide to sell it. For what it's worth my daily has been a '92 CC for over ten years now,..dollar for dollar the best car I've owned..

The Old Cars Price Guide lists the value of an '89 Custom Cruiser in "car show" but not showroom condition at $5,600. If the engine compartment is not clean and detailed, if the paint is not shiny, if there is any rust, or if there is any wear to the seats or carpet, it's not in car show condition.
