71 Cutlass Engine Problem

I took my car out for a spin yesterday and it didn't run right. I haven't drove it in over a month. It drove fine for about the first hour or two then it started acting up. As I was leaving a friends house I stepped on the pedal a little and it barked down like it lost power. It would bark down take off and bark down again. As long as I didn't try to get in it it was fine. I was wondering if some one else has had this problem. It almost seems like it jumps time but runs fine as long as you don't get into it. Help anyone.

Replace the fuel filter.
Cheap. Should be ruled out first.

Barked down? Never heard that term before. Old cheap gas will make 'em bog down
some if they haven't been driven in a while. Is that what is happening?

Not old cheap gas. Had to go straight to gas station and put gas in it when I got in it. I had a 87 cutlass and it did the same thing before. If bark down is not the term, then I'll say loss power or just tried to quit going. My cousin has a 70 cutlass and I have seen his do the same thing before. I dont have a clue what could be doing it.

I will go ahead and change fuel filter. Like you said that is a cheap change.
