'69 vacuum trunk release

On my friend's '69 H/O we're trying to piece together the vacuum trunk release. It was missing the two-way swivel lock rod so we got the correct rod. Now with it installed it is not long enough to reach into the vacuum canister slot (it needs another 1/2" at least). The vacuum canister needs to come closer and we're wondering if maybe the canister is not correct because the three mount pedestals have pretty thick bosses keeping it 'off' the inside of the deck lid. The parts were in the trunk so it may not be correct. Did the '69 A-bodies have a specific canister? I'm confused why the lock rod does not reach.

I have that on my 69 442. There were many different swivel couplings, the 68-69 is longer than most. You probaly just have the wrong swivel shaft. Good luck finding one! I would cut a stock shaft and add an inch. You can't see it once it's in.

Thanks. That's what we figured so we cut a section out of the non swivel shaft and added to the swivel one to extend it to the length we need (since no one will see it and because they're non-existent). It should work, we'll try it this week.

Yes...it should work for you. The important part is the swivel joint. Just add enough so the shaft passes through the latch slot and maybe 1/4" or so more. As the shaft is turning it might pull out of the latch slot a bit, I'm not sure. It's better to make it too long, because it's way easier to shorten it than lengthen it!
