1968 442 ac

i need an aftermarket ac for a 1968 442 , vintage air doesn't make one. does anyone know what company makes a kit for my car.

before any says " just go to a salvage and get a factory one" its a heater only car and i don't want to cut my firewall.

Just get a generic aftermarket hang-on unit for underdash. It will look period correct since that's what a lot of cars had back then. Factory indash airconditioning didn't really hit its stride till the mid 70s.

Compressor mounting may be tricky. I would use a GM A6 compressor mounted in factory brackets and get a good AC shop to make up the hoses. Bracketry to install a York or Sanden compressor on an Olds engine may not be easy to find.

For an underdash hangon unit, odds are you will have to make holes in the floor or toepan for refrigerant lines to pass thru. Just keep telling yourself "this is the way Sears/Penneys/ARA did it in 1968" because those three companies installed a mess of airconditioning units and they worked damn good.

Old Air has the underdash and the ducted systems for Oldsmobiles.
They're model specific so pretty sure they give you the compressor mounting brackets. I would go with the underdash unit too, looks period correct and they're pretty cool.
