1964 Starfire Value
1964 Starfire Value
I am not an overly consistent posted here, but every time I post you all are extremely helpful. I really favor the large body cars, Ninety Eights specifically. I have been looking on and off for a solid project driver for the past couple of years without success.
I saw this on eBay today, any thoughts?

Thanks again! I hope to some day join the ranks.

Certainly I would inspect the car for rust not only due to the bumper but an east coast car. Check driver pan carpet/pedal wear to see if the mileage claim seems plausible. Nice looking car with incorrect wheels. Also get under and look at frame. He's right in terms of the rear bumper, they rust out there but there are no replacements. Finding a solid rear to rechrome will be tough. I suppose a good metal guy could weld it up for driver quality. Don't use bumper boyz for this. They slap stuff together and leave you hanging. It's getting very expensive to do chrome but don't go cheap or you will be doing it again in a couple years. Good luck.
If that car runs out good as it looks and the documentation supports the miles, his price is about right. It's a good color with a nice interior and not a lot of gadgets to misfire.
Bumper is a problem but not insurmountable. It's just expensive. That really looks like worst part of the car. Rest of the Starfire trim appears to be all there and in good shape, and that is always a plus on these cars.
We all know about the Slim Jim's weirdness (Don R calls it "kinky shifting"), but it may function well.

I don't know where you live but keep in mind this car does not have AC. That would really hurt the desireablity of the car in Texas or Arizona. I would change the wheels and put some whitewalls on it so it looked like it did new. But, that is just my preference. Looks like a nice car with a good story.
Looks nice in the photos but go see it in person if you can. If not, at least get as many undercarriage photos as you can and pin him down on how recently the car was serviced. Assuming the low miles are real like he claims sometimes that is worse for the car mechanically if it sat unused for long periods. Good luck!
when i bought my 64 starfire conv in 83 or so it had no wheel covers.so thru the 10 yrs of slowly restoring it i had numerous different wheels and wheel covers.even had a set of the mid 70's olds 88 conv wheels with the rectangle slots and rubber coating.i eventually ran across a pretty nice set of tru-spoke wire wheels with the 3 bar knock-off centers which i really loved the looks of.also had a set of the cast aluminim wheel covers but didn't have the wheels for em otherwise they would have been on it.
