Headlight Question

My very reliable 1980 Delta 88 Coupe started having headlight problems the last few days. First the headlights wouldn't come on, but when I switched to high beams they came on. I switched back to low beams and they were ok for a while. The next night I turned them on and the high beams came on regardless of where the switch is set. Tonight, the headlights kept changing back and forth between high beams and low beams without me touching the switch. When I tried to switch to low beams, nothing happened. I suspect the dimmer switch in the steering column has gone bad. Has anyone else had this problem? I dread having to open up the steering column if the switch is bad.

I think you will because it sure sounds like the switch to me.

Check the headlight grounds too.

I had this same problem with my 78 Ford. If I pounded the dimmer switch with my foot, the problem went a way for a while.
I know you do not want to hear this, but I am guessing the dimmer switch in the column needs to be replaced...

Yep, i'd say the switch. The plus side, is you can take the switch out without tearing the column to pieces. Getting it back in may prove difficult.
