Charging light question

I saw the post earlier but my problem is a little different. I have an HEI installed. still has the external voltage regulator. The charging lamp in the dash stays on while running.

Checking voltage to battery - The alternator is not charging. Because of the HEI would I need to do something with the old distributer wires? Harness?

Brand new alternator, New Battery. How do you check the voltage regulator? Could it be a bad ground engeine block to body? Seems to me that the NEW alternator is not recieving a signal to start charging?

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

by the way any of you coming to the Olds Homecoming show?
Thanks

may or may not be the same but when my 76 Custom Cruiser alternator was replaced with a single wire alternator, the connector on top is supposed to stay disconnected - if it's connected, the light will stay on

wish I could be at Homecoming but alas, no

i would recommend you upgrade your alternator to the 10si, or even the 12si. when gm switched to hei ignition, they also changed to the 10si alternator by necessity. the hei system isn't fond of the voltage spikes created by the 10dn(external points regulated) alternator.

at the very least, i would tape and store the old distributor wiring, alternatively, i would remove the old wiring.
