Long story short, the Sh** head who took the dash out of this 72 cut wires and didn't label anything. I'm piecing it back together and I'm close. I have the wiring diagram but it only helps so much. There a few wires that I need to figure out or confirm. For example, there is a small bullet shaped deal, possibly an ashtray light with a gray wire on it that is cut. Near by, there are 2 other gray wires that are also cut. They both come from the driver side of the harness. One of them continues to the passenger side dash courtesy lights. Possibly the three of them get tied together? See pictures.
Does anyone have any resources that can help me? Pictures perhaps? Thank you.
Troubleshooting/Diagnosing electrical wiring is generally not very straightforward - so this may take a little time. You said you have the 1972 CSM wiring diagram, right? If you have the chance (helpful) you might evaluate the 1971 CSM wiring diagram on this site which might provide a little more insight into the area which requires further attention. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-v-8-a-146374/
Note there is a significant departure from 1971>1972 in this area (depicted in image below) - the branch wiring into/from instrument lamps/courtesy lamps. I'm not an electrical wiring guru & my familiarity develops from having worked primarily on a 1971 CS A-Body. Others might likely chime in to assist - be patient.
With that said, I'd approach the issue in a deductive manner - try to establish what already is "working". In wiring, it's helpful to write down your troubleshooting/diagnostics & of course, as you're doing labeling is vitally important. Identify which lights work & which lights do not work. I think that's your jumping off point. The remainder will hopefully become rudimentary. That yellow arrow and attendant wiring is not contained in the 1971 wiring diagram but is contained in the 1972 wiring diagram - thus, a departure to my familiarity. I "suspect" the broken/dashed gray line results from an add-on feature contained in some RPO lighting package as it's not "hard-wire" (so-to-speak) into the 1972 wiring diagram - likely came w/ some courtesy lamp illumination package or something? I don't know. Yet, find out what is working & what is not working along the gray wire & report back
I reviewed a couple other threads/posts you have going on & can see you're doing a Full Monty on the dash (including 8-track & wiring). Do you own a 1972 Product Information Manual (PIM) often called the FAM (Factory Assembly Manual)?
I have several items of my own to attend to - you're likely working on your car. With that said, since you haven't responded to owning a 1972 PIM, I took the liberty of providing you with some pertinent PIM diagrams which might provide some assistance.
A couple of my 1972 PIM diagrams are really bad yet readable. To that end, I'm providing you w/ both the 1971 PIM diagrams & the 1972 PIM diagrams - you can evaluate on your own.
These should help to address some routing characteristics (the tape player routing is bonus since I saw your tape player/radio thread).
NOTE: When evaluating these diagrams (which I haven't done w/ a very specific eye to detail), they "appear" identical for both 1971 & 1972. What is not clear and should not be assumed is the actual "wires" contained in each of the mentioned wiring looms (esp. as they relate to what I've already discussed in a previous post regarding courtesy light [departure] between 1971 & 1972). I'll post these in order (hopefully) for you beginning with 1971 diagrams followed by 1972 diagrams. If these are helpful & you'd like additional details on how your car was assembled, you should purchase a 1972 paperback Product Information Manual. Lots of us here to help. Nice work on diving into it.
