I purchased a new "Standard" brand NOS Light Switch for my 1969 Cutlass Convertible and have apparently received the "Later Style". The original wiring on the car was pretty hacked up, so the old connector is of no use as a template (wires missing).
I am using a Painless Wiring Kit which has the diagram for both Early and Late Styles.
Can anyone please tell me if the Switch pictured is useable with the correct wire placement?
That should work fine. The terminal in the lower RH corner in your photo is not used and will be an open position in the connector. You'll note that the switch has a brass jumper connecting that terminal to the one next to it anyway. The other terminals align with the connector positions. Apparently this is another case of a vendor consolidating part numbers, but it will still work. I have no idea what your Painful wire harness calls early and late. I can only assume that this has to do with the 1966-older cars that control the front park lights independently from the headlights and thus have seven wires going to the switch. 1967-up wire them together on the switch and will only have six wires running to the switch..
When you say independently do you mean that the parking lights go out when the headlights are on? I believe that the parking lights turn off when the headlights are on through 68.

Actually, 1967 was the last year that the park lights went off when the headlights are on. 67-older switches have seven wires, 68-up have six.
Joe...can't tell you how much I appreciate your insight! This has been a 2 1/2 year labor of love (mine, not my wife's) and I would have been totally lost without your expertise and that of others on the forum.
I appreciate your characterization of the "Painful" wiring kit, although I could have never used the harness that was in the car (see pic). Painful does have 7 wires however, as you can see by the diagram. Based on your explanation, I think the 7 will work?
Thank you again for your guidance! Wish you lived down the block
