Differential cover

If I'm installing a differential cover and using a gasket, do I need to use some kind of sealer with the gasket, or do I simply install the gasket as is?

i don't use any on mine and never had a problem. the factory didn't use any either. just make sure both surfaces are clean.

That is my experience, too. Gasket only - torque bolts to spec.

Gasket sealer etc

With the aftermarket gaskets, USE sealer. Better safe that sorry.

Gaskets are much thinner and not made from the same material as older stock.

Good luck. Jim

Seems like I always hear its about 50/50 people use gasket with sealer and other half use only gasket wish we could get a definitive answer on this question.

Put it this way, using sealer on the gasket won't hurt anything.

cover gasket

IF you do not plan on going in all the time (race application) Then seal both sides and BE DONE.... guarantee not to leak.

I would use sealer, since the new gaskets are thin cardboard. I wish there was a rubber version made for these.
Also check the flatness around the bolt holes before reinstalling.
