I recently picked up an '86 Cutlass with a freshly rebuilt 305. if I take off easy it's fine, if I try to get on it to hard my rear end grinds.

I'll be heading to the local Pull-a-Part next weekend to grab the diff. and a door.

What rearends will bolt up? I'd like a better ratio if possible.
Any G-body should work right? '78-'87? Anything else?

Also what year doors match my '86?

 

The problem is that your Olds is rejecting the Chebby motor, like a heart transplant gone bad...

Seriously, any 78-88 G-body axle is a bolt-in. No other axles fit without work. All but the 84 H/O and 85-87 442 and Buick GN will be the same weak-kneed 7.5" axle that was originally born under the Vega. If you do happen to find the 8.5" from the 442 or GN, you'd better also start buying lottery tickets because you have incredible luck.

How about the doors? I know the early models won't fit but what about '84,'85, and '87?

 

'81-'88 are g-bodies, '78-'80 are a-bodies.
doors from '81-'88 buick regal and olds cutlass are what you're looking for.

a 7.625 rear will hold up behind a plain 305, for a very long time.
