1977 Cutlass steering column question

Hey guys I am always reading on this forum and searched my brains out trying to find any information which I usually do find on here but no luck lately. I have a 1977 Cutlass S and I need to replace the steering column I haven't been able to find a universal one that would fit and also I haven't been able to find a decent condition one from 76 / 77. Any idea if a 1973 Tilt steering column would fit a non tilt 77 ? Figured the tilt portion just makes it a little longer but otherwise its a column shifter just like the one I have installed. Even a universal one would be helpful or measuring I see alot on Summit but don't want to end up with the wrong one. Thanks in advanced.

Column

You will have better luck posting on 73-77 olds.com
The column you are seeking should be easy to find as they were put in Millions of cars.

Any 1973-77 A-body is a suitable donor. What's wrong with your column? They rarely need complete replacement.

Thank you very much for the information I appreciate it. @joe_padavano I picked up the car for pretty cheap and one of the issues were the column was broken and I mean this thing had the ignition intact but everything else was ripped the metal was peeled back. Sorry if the question was pretty simple this is my first Olds and I hope to get it back to normal.

Can you post a photo of the damage? Depending on how many parts are torn, and on how much trouble you have finding a replacement column, it might be easier to just replace the damaged parts. The nice thing about GM columns is that ALL GM steering columns from 1969 to the time that the dimmer and wiper moved to the turn signal lever use the same upper components. That should significantly broaden your search if you are just looking for parts.

You have to be careful because 77 was a cross over year. Some cars came with the metric steering box and used the later style columns. You'll be able to tell by looking at the intermediate shaft where the column bolts to it. If it has a bolt going straight thru it then its the metric set up and will not interchange. If it has the bolt on the side in a clamp simular to a bicycle seat clamp, then you have the standard style set up. So between that and the dimmer switch on the column or floor you should be able to find a column. Don't forget to join the 73-77 board.
