I finally got an opportunity to get the Hurst out today and take some pictures. As stated in an earlier post, I'm the 5th owner. This car went from Pennsylvania to Delaware, then to Ohio. I got the car out of Northern New York. It now resides in West Central Alabama. Appears to be all original non molested.
You've got some really interesting options in this 79 H/O, from what I can see in the photo: power door locks but hand crank windows. Cornering lights, fiber optic directionals. But one of the rarest and IMHO one of the coolest, is that wastepaper basket. Don't ever lose that one, hell finding another one. Next time you are in a local show, drop me a P.M., maybe I can come by with my 79 H/O and we can do a side by side display. You car is looking great! I would highly recommend getting a couple of seat towels for the front seat(s) when driving, thay will save alot of wear and tear and will keep the seat fabric out of the sun. They are worth protecting as that seat material pattern has not been available since 1989.
Nice clean H/O. Great to see more of these pop up from time to time.
Any chance either one of you guys got a copy of the original billing invoice from GM heritage?
Best $50 I ever spent for a piece of paper.
I got mine in 2013 and the invoice has some good info on it.
Thans to everyone for the comments. About 30 years ago, I had a friend that owned a towing company. He called me one day and said he had a black Hurst/Olds about to go to the abandoned auction. The car was rough and had been wrecked with a broken rear axle. In spite of that I purchased the car and kept it at my farm. I did research on the car and ordered the invoice. It was sold new at an Olds dealer in Fernandina Beach, Fl. Once I purchased this car, I ordered the invoice and discovered it was sold at an Olds dealer in State College, Pa. Interesting fact, it appears these two cars were built on the same day back in May of '79.
Your car looks great! I can remember when I worked at the dealership, these cars and the 77 Delta 88 pace cars were tough to sell. They were either demos or put into loaner service. Personally, I thought the Hurst was an all around fine car.
I have put this one in other posts and you may have seen it, but I thought I'd re-post, this photo features that wastepaper basket, a must have for those 70mph bank shots with those Big Mac wrappers. The yellowed interior panels have since been re-dyed their correct white. The remaining panels from the b-pillars on back will be re-done later this year. The King of All radios. A real challenge to keep all components in proper working order, including the tri-band power antenna
I'm glad my car had the litter container. I've been looking for a dark briar brown set up for my 88 for 12 years. Every time I find a car with the option, the container is always gone. It's good to also get the lower A pillar trim too being it has the retainer rivets.
