Best Quality Headers for A 72 Supreme/442

Planning a engine & engine bay "restoration" (not sure what else to call it..) on my 72 Cutass Supreme/442 Convertible. Going to removed the engine (455) have it checked out, rebuilt if necessary, paint it, clean up the engine bay, replace all the harnesses up front, etc.....would like to replace the stock exhaust manfolds with headers.....have looked around, most manf. say thier headers will not fit a 72 Supreme....postings on the Oldmobile forums say other wise.........maybe the proprtionoing vavle will need to be moved a bit from what I have seen on the postings (going to replace the brake lines anyway)...anyway was wondering who makes the best quality headers (have seen a couple positive posting on Doug's Headers) . Also concerned they will not hang down to low and cause any ground clearance problems......any suggestions? I do plan on either buying ceramic coated headers or having them coated (inside & outside). Any help on info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Not all headers are the same...I can tell you the best headers to buy but they may not be right for your engine; American Racing stainless steel headers. They are nice, about $1200 for a pair without coatings.

I checked out American Racing's web site and they only list headers for 78-88 Cutlass........

I've used Hooker Comp on 3 different Cutlass Supremes and have never had to change anything. I didn't move the distribution block either & didn't dent any of the tubes to get them in there, it should be very easy since your removing everything anyways. All of mine were done with the same situation, rebuilding motor, freshen up engine compartment, I just put them in before I put the wheel wells back in.

The myth that headers do not fit Supremes had to originate from someone that had no clue what they were doing. The frames & engine compartments are no different,so if they fit other Cutlass/442's,they will fit Supremes.Hooker headers fit really well. They might have a dimple or two,but you will find that they are placed in certain areas for a reason,to help clear something.Get something with 1 7/8" primaries. The ones with 1 3/4" primaries are a little on the small side.
