I bought a camshaft from FCRPerformance.com 20 years ago. Engine ran briefly but had issues (was young and didnt know what I was doing). Rebuilding properly now.
While looking to reassemble and reading up on thrust faces for the camshaft... mine has none. Is this the wrong cam? Why wouldn't it has a thrust face surface if for an Olds V8? I also attached the cam card, the part number matches the stamp on the other end.
Looks like there's supposed to be a spacer/disk on the nose. It would look like a really big, really thick washer with one hole for the bolt hole and one hole for the alignment dowel. It'd be retained by the timing gear and larger than the cam journal so it would act as the thrust surface.
Don't run it without that spacer.
Interesting. I don't do a mess of Olds engines but I don't think I have ever seen an Olds cam without the thrust area. You might have to do some measuring and have somebody make you a spacer to go in there between the front of the cam and the timing sprocket. It will need to be the correct thickness to position the cam properly.
Looks like a roller cam too so it will need something to keep it from moving forward.
I have a pretty old Lunati catalog at the shop. Ill take a look in the morning and see if it mentions anything.
Andy at OldsPerformanceProducts mentions that those were for diesel engines. I also came across someone selling a similar cam on ebay listing it for an Olds 307 / 350. Looks like I need to buy a new cam.
Not sure what the front of the cams look like for the oem Hydraulic roller engines. 85 and newer ? As long as everything else is fine it should be a fairly simple job for someone at a precision type machine shop to make you a spacer for the front. I would still call Lunati and see what they say.
I just looked at some pics of the Melling SOC14 which is for the factory hydraulic rollers and thats what it look like. You could probably use it IF you can find one of the factory thrust plates like DUH linked to and use the correct timing set. The thrust plates are very difficult to find.
I think this is how roller hydrologic cams were done be fore a dedicated roller core for retrofits. I'll look when I get home but the old Mondello tech guide said something about it.
ugh they dont have them in stock anymore, back to the search
RR is backorder but did you try others such as Andy miller at olds performance or Dick miller? or Mark cutlassefi? Im sure one of these fellas will hook you up.

first off, what engine/year block is it going in?
that’s a factory hyd roller . they don’t come with any of the front hardware..you reuse your old stuff.
they can also be used in non roller blocks while using only the cam thrust peace which is pinched between the cam gear and cam. plus a regular thrust button
im sure someone on here will have that piece you need. They came on all 307 and Diesel rollers
