Oil Light On

Good Evening everyone...

i am having the damnest time figuring out why my Oil light came on. I have replaced the oil sending unit because one day last week i started it up and then oil started shooting up out the top of it. And then i decided it was a good time to change the oil filter and fill it up with new oil. Then after a few trips to my moms about 30 miles total my light kicks on and will not go off. Any ideas.

Get a pressure reading just incase you actually do have low oil pressure and if so you should not be running the engine.

Do you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge to test your pressure? Maybe your oil pump is not working correctly or the pump screen is plugged.

a.) Your corner auto parts store. About twenty somolians.

b.) Remove the electrical sender you just installed last week. Install gauge in the same hole. See here.

It is possible your new switch is bad, but BEST to do the oil pressure check to be sure. Wally's, harbor freight, and even your local auto parts store sells some cheap gauges you can get to try.

Outside of a bad switch, you may have frayed or split wire thats finding a ground somewhere in the circuit.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.. It ended up being a bad switch! I took the old one out and put the new one on any the light went off immediately...I also put a little threadlock on the new one as well.
