I TORE MY 1970 455 BLOCK DOWN AND SENT TO THE MACHINE SHOP 6 MONTHS AGO AND I CANT FIND MY CAM BOLT AND FUEL PUMP ECCENTRIC. ANY IDEA WHERE i CAN GET ONE????

 

Did you look on the workbench, behind the tin cans full of "important stuff," and in the back of the waist-level tool cabinet drawer, and on that shelf above the workbench - the one that's just high enough that you can't see small things on it?

10 times over, i left them on the cam until i decided what new cam i was buying then i pulled them off and scrapped the cam and now they are gone.

Fusicks had nothing but Mondello and Dick Miller had them but their thrust button bolt comes with a .040" bronze shim for the camshaft and a steel shim to aling the crank gear with the cam gear.

My block didnt show any sign of wear from its previous life. So my question to the Olds crowd is the shims worth removing my cam and crank gear and installing shim or buy a standard thrust button and adjust for the .005" end play ????????????

 

Is the cam installed already? If so...just use the thrust bolt from Mondello without the spacers. The end of the bolt has to be ground down to make the brass button clear anyway so without the spacers you should be able to use it just as a thrust bolt.

Just install the eccentric and put in the bolt. Then take a straight edge and put it across the front timing cover block surface to make sure the brass button will clear once you put on the timing cover. If it doesn't, take the button off the end of the bolt and grind the end of the bolt down by small increments to allow for clearance. Chances are it's going to fit perfectly since you won't be using the spacers.

 

Maybe your wife decided to help you and straighten up the shop? Mine is good at putting things away then has no idea where she put em!
