Block Identification?

Block Identification?
Can anyone tell me about this "E"?
Everything I can seem to find indcates this is probably a 1967(ish) 455 but near as I can tell there isnt a block number "396021 E" -
There is one with an "F" but that sure looks like an "E" to me.
Is it possibly an "F" and I am just not looking at it correctly or maybe not even an olds engine block?
Thanks

That lower "_" on the "E" doesn't look right to me. If I had to guess, I'd say that's a common '68-'70 F block that someone modified to pass off as a rare '66-'67 400 E. What's the story with the block?

Don't know anything about the block history? The previous owner just said that is what was in it when he got it...
I can't even find any information on a block casting number ending with an E that has those numbers. Seems like a lot of trouble to add the bottom line if the rest of the numbers won't add up.
It really makes no difference to me what block it is so long as it it sound and i can use it. I just found it interesting...
I will take some more pics after I give it a good cleaning and brush it down to see what color is under there.
Thank you both y

This happens all the time, with cars and other collectibles. People add or remove things from marks to make them appear more valuable. If the F block was valuable and the E block was common, they would have ground off the bottom "_" from the E blocks. They weren't doing it to fool someone who was scrutinizing it, they were just hoping that some guy who knew that the E block was the valuable one would take a glance, see the E, and think he scored. A guy with a '67 442 also might have done this, to show that he "only" had a 400. For your purposes, it's just an interesting story you can tell people about your motor.
